Social Media
I'm on the key Social Media services and invite you to join me on them.
I tweet on two accounts on Twitter, @ibmdesign and @karelvredenburg. The former is the official IBM
corporate account for IBM design-related communication and collaboration. I share insightful design quotes, pointers to IBM and other design-related information, podcasts, polls, and the like. The account with my name on it is my personal one on which I tweet more general information that I've read, experiences I'm having, and information regarding design in general as well as information about improving the human condition. I try very hard not to tweet the same information on both accounts and very, very rarely do. I tend to tweet two to three posts a day on average o both accounts although I do miss the odd day. If you'd like to follow my tweets on the corporate account, you can go right ahead and add the account but if you'd like to follow my person account, you can request to be added and I'll then accept you. I've had some difficulty with spam accounts.
I'm also on Facebook and provide updates on a regular basis regarding professional issues as well as
personal happenings. I've reconnected with many old friends and colleagues, have solid connections with current friends, colleagues, and family members, and also increasingly have people as Facebook friends who listen to my podcasts. If you'd like to connect with me on Facebook, please include a little information as to how you came across me and some information about yourself. We also have an official corporate account which I'd encourage you to join but I don't personally update it; Scott Lewis on my staff handles that account.
I'm on LinkedIn and have a good collection of colleagues I've worked with in the past and am working
with currently. I don't tend to accept people on LinkedIn unless I know you in some professional capacity. So if you'd like to link in with me, you can do so but do explain briefly in the request how we know each other.
YouTube
Although I still have a personal account on YouTube, I don't really use it at all. I again have a 
corporate channel on which we post IBM design-related videos. These include demos of the user experience design of our products as well as demos of the widgets my team builds. I encourage you to subscribe to our IBM Design Channel.
I tend to join new social networking systems as they are introduced but just to try them out. The ones listed above are really my primary mechanisms for social networking communication and collaboration.
